Gogo knows its Internet in the sky sucks. Passengers are used to this and they are happy to be able to get their net fix even if it’s slow as hell. Let’s face it – it’s not easy to get this done. And Gogo is working to make it better. Up to 6 times better.
The faster airborne Wi-Fi connections clocking at up to 60Mbps per plane will be available in-flight at some point next year. Still not as fast as your cable or DSL connection but a step in right direction. Virgin America likes the idea and has already signed up to try it out, with plans to introduce Gogo’s service on its 53 planes starting in the second half of next year.
Other airlines also want a piece of this market and they will “respond” accordingly. JetBlue plans to introduce the service on every plane in the company’s fleet by the end of 2015. United will expand Wi-Fi to 200 of its 700 aircrafts by the end of this year, and eventually have onboard Wi-Fi in all of its planes by the end of 2015.
As things are progressing, before we know it, we’ll be able to connect to the Internet wherever we are. That’s sweet I would say, what do you think?
