By now, you probably know that Eric Schmidt says the darndest things. Whether it’s his famous Google TV quote, or the latest Schmidtism below.
During a Q&A session at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo, analyst David Willis said the following to Mr. Schmidt:
“When you say Android, people say, wait a minute, Android is not secure.”
Schmidt’s reply?
“Not Secure? It’s more secure than iPhone.”
While Android itself has come a long way when it comes to becoming a more secure mobile operating system, Schmidt’s quote obviously didn’t sit all that well, giving the audience quite a chuckle.
As a part of Android 4.2, a built-in application verification process was implemented to scan for harmful properties. According to a North Carolina State University computer science professor, this process only detected around 15% of known malware.
Google introduced a few more security enhancements in Android 4.3, and we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that Android 4.4 KitKat will also beef up in this arena as well. Nonetheless, Schmidt’s latest quote about Android security may be justifiable one day, but that isn’t today.
