Looks like Xiaomi will be entering the smart watch market by the end of the year. According to Chinese website MyDrivers, manufactures in Shenzhen say that Xiaomi has already started producing smart watches running the watered-down version of its own MIUI platform.
The rumor goes on suggesting that Xiaomi has secured a reliable supply chain and is readying for the launch as we speak. Apart from that, very little is known about the watch except that it will sing along Xiaomi phones, and perhaps other Android-based handsets. As for the price, this device will be more affordable than smart watches made by the likes of Sony and Samsung.
As it’s usually the case with Xiaomi and other Chinese vendors, we’ve no idea whether their products will ever make it to the Western hemisphere. We do think Xiaomi has compelling products for customers in the West but bringing their devices to Europe and Americas isn’t as easy as packing them to a container ship; there are a number of certifications and other legal hurdles along the way…
