Sony released its Playstation 4 at midnight last night across North America. The internets are abuzz with reviews of launch titles and stories of Playstation Network slow-downs and other issues around the launch. One thing you won’t see much about, however, is where to buy the console. Ladies and Germs, the PS4 is effectively sold out!
The sales numbers aren’t in yet, but the launch is an unqualified success. The PS4 isn’t available through any online retailer, and essentially impossible to find in stores. Amazon briefly got ahold of some more units late last night, but they were gone in minutes. Since then, the listing simply has a “Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available” message.
It’s the same for Gamestop, Best Buy, Walmart and Toys R Us. Walmart had a tracker on its site, to let customers know where to find the console in-store, but it’s since been removed. For all intents and purposes, the PS4 has become unattainable.
Sony surely will be shipping more soon, and hopes to keep the momentum up for the holiday season. The PS4’s main competitor, the Xbox One drops on November 22nd, and Microsoft is gunning for an explosive launch of its own. We’ll keep you posted!
