Ascend P6S to rock Huawei's own octa-core chip?

We’ve already told you that Huawei is working on the successor of its popular Ascend P6 smartphone. From what we’ve heard, the upcoming Ascend P6S will keep the thing body, while rocking a faster processor, which will apparently have eight cores. Alas we’re not sure “what kind of cores” those are — i.e. whether they are Cortex-A7 or Cortex-A9 (cause they certainly aren’t Cortex-A15).

The Chinese company’s President Xu Xin Quan turned to Weibo (China’s equivalent of Twitter) to spread the good news, saying that the next K3V2 chipset will boast octa-core processing capabilities, integrated 3G connectivity and additional tweaks that will prolong the battery life.

The current quad-core Huawei K3V2 processor is a little old now and a successor is long overdue. Huawei used Qualcomm’s chips in Windows Phone devices but its goal seems to be to make as many components as possible in-house. We’ll see how that goes…
