According to the Guardian, Google and HBO have struck a deal to bring some of their hottest shows to the UK with the addition of Game of Thrones, Veep, Girls, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire to the Google Play Store. Customers in the UK can now purchase single episodes or full seasons on the Google Play Store for the first time ever.
“We are delighted to bring our wide range of programming to Google Play in the UK, and expand on our existing relationship in the US. This is an exciting time for HBO in the digital space and we can’t wait to work with Google over the coming weeks and months to deliver all of our series and films to their platform, including a host of new and returning HBO shows throughout 2014.” – Colin Smith, director of international digital distribution for HBO
This is great news for UK Game of Thrones fans who have had few options for viewing the series, with BSkyB and Sky Go the only avenues to watch the series thus far. Other HBO programming such as The Wire, The Sopranos and Band of Brothers will be available for purchase in the coming weeks thanks to the deal.
Game of Thrones is currently priced at £1.89 an episode and £18.49 for the full collection of season 3.
