The first Sailfish OS-based smartphone has started selling in Helsinki, and the company is bullish on the prospects of its platform.
According to the Jolla’s chairman and co-founder Antti Saarnio, we may see millions of devices shipping this year. “This is a product where our company can introduce our idealistic views on how we believe the mobile phone should be,” he said, adding: “With our own phone and our partners’ phones combined, we’re expecting to sell millions of phones.”
While we don’t have exact figures, we do know that customers’ preorders accounted for the first production run of tens of thousands of Jolla handsets that came from 136 countries. Going forward, the handset/platform maker is looking to make its smartphone available in the rest of Europe and China…
