LG proudly announced that it will be the first company to incorporate the AllJoyn open source software framework into its Smart TVs, allowing users to seamlessly connect their mobile devices to the big screen.

Developed by Qualcomm Innovation Center, AllJoyn creates a common language that connects the “Internet of Things” across different platforms, enabling devices and apps to freely communicate with one another.

This in turn will allow several smartphones or tablets, each running a completely different OS, to participate in the same multiplayer game on an LG Smart TV. For instance, in Mini Motor Racing, one person could steer his or her car around the track using the LG Magic Remote while the other players could control their vehicles via the LG Gamepad app for mobile devices.

Sounds sweet… Unfortunately we don’t know when first AllJoyn-enabled smart TVs will be unveiled. Or whether some existing models will be upgradable to the new capability. We’re looking forward to get that information soon…
