Looks like Nike is preparing to re-enter the smart watch space now that everyone and their mama are talking about wearable computing. According to DigiTimes, the largest sports equipment maker will unveil a new smart watch during the first half of next year.
Citing sources in Taiwan’s supply chain, DigiTimes claims that Nike’s watch is currently under trial production at EMS firm Flextronics International.
Compared to other companies in the industry, Nike is killing it. Adidas has a smart watch of its own, miCoach Smart Run, but it isn’t as popular as Nike’s device is (or so we’ve heard – we don’t have data to back this claim, though). That, however, could change next year is Adidas decides to follow up with a smart watch of its own. Or perhaps we’ll see some other company from this market joining the wearables space. Perhaps we even see some acquisitions in the space. Waiting and seeing is pretty much the only thing we can do at this moment…
