Voice and Channels coming to BBM for iPhone and Android

Voice and Channels coming to BBM for iPhone and Android

BlackBerry has spilled the beans on what we can expect from their IM client next year. And there’s a lot coming, most notably the addition of BBM Voice and BBM Channels for its iOS and Android apps. Yup, this will allow BBM users across platforms to talk for free, while also enabling them to join conversations happening within the BBM community beyond their contact lists.

In addition, the Canadian company promises faster and easier sharing of photos, voice notes and location. Speaking of location, one neat trick will come included – it [your location] will live for just a limited amount of time after which it won’t be visible any more.

Finally, emoticons will be added. 100 of them, to be more precise, including a bunch that came from BBM users.

All in all, we can tell that with this addition, BlackBerry hopes to expand its reach beyond enterprise users and further tap into other iOS and Android users. Here’s a short video demoing the upcoming features. Enjoy!

That’s all cool but I doubt that will convince iOS and Android folks to use BBM instead of some other IM client…
