MediaTek has crossed a long road from a little know Taiwanese chip maker to the force worth reckoning with. The company has been steadily growing its market share, eating a significant part of Qualcomm’s lunch along the way and even pushing some vendors like Texas Instruments out of market.
During this year’s CES, MediaTek will showcase few new products that could further help it grow its business.
First, the Taiwanese company will showcase the MT6290 LTE modem that supports LTE Cat. 4, achieving downlink speeds of up to 150Mbps. This chipset is compatible with existing MediaTek processors, so integrating it into new products should be easy.
The second product we’ll see in Vegas is the quad-core chip marked as MT8135. Relying on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, it packs two Cortex-A7 and two Cortex-A15 cores, along with a PowerVR Series 6 graphics that is also found in the iPhone 5S. The octa-core MediaTek MT6592 will be on display, too.
Finally, MediaTek plans to launch what it says is the world’s smallest chipset which will be used for wearable devices like smart watches.
Plus let’s not forget other solutions for smart TVs, home automation, indoor positioning and Qi wireless charging…
All in all, we’re pretty confident another successful year is ahead of MediaTek.
