Alcatel is using CES to re-announce its flagship device, One Touch Idol X+; unveil a pair of new, low-cost tablets – One Touch Pop 7 and Pop 8; and a phablet – Pop C9.
First, let’s recap what Idol X+ is all about. If you recall from our previous post, we’re talking about a high-end device that comes with a 5-inch full HD IPS screen, octa-core chip clocked at 2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 2,500mAh battery, and 16GB of expandable storage.
As for those tablets, the Pop 7 has a 7-inch 1024×600 screen, 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage and 2-megapixel camera on the back; while the Pop 8 rocks an 8-inch 1280×800 display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, the same amount of internal storage and 2MP rear camera. Both of these should hit the EMEA region later this quarter, with 3G-enabled versions of the Pop 7 and Pop 8 selling for €149 and €199, respectively.
Finally, the Pop C9 is an entry-level phablet with a 5.5-inch qHD (540×960) IPS screen, 1.3GHz quad-core CPU, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and a 2,500 mAh battery. This model will be available in five different colors, like Bluish Black, Cherry Red, Full White, Hot Pink or Fresh Turquoise.
We like the Idol X+ and perhaps even the Pop 8, whereas we would skip the Pop 7 and Pop C9. Simply put, these two are too basic, and you’re much better off getting some other devices, instead.
