Samsung’s CES keynote was chugging along smoothly, with some impressive 4K UHD curved smartTVs gracing the giant screens situated around the stage. Transformers director Michael Bay showed up on stage, and started a rant about being a director and how cool he is. Then the unexpected happened..he choked. Big time.
Apparently, it wasn’t Bay’s fault; the teleprompter had failed, leaving poor Michael at a loss of words. He tried to wing it, but failed, and stormed off stage in embarrassment. He could be heard uttering “Sorry” under his breath as he hurried off stage. For a big time director, you’d think he could have winged it, or plugged his newest explosion ridden movie or something. I’m kind of glad he didn’t though, because this clip is priceless.
Actually, this isn’t the first time Mr. Bay has botched a press conference. Back in 2009, Bay was at a LG display booth at CTIA in Las Vegas for the promotion of the LG Versa. While promoting the device, Bay announced, “I don’t know anything about mobile phones. In fact, look at my phone — it’s a thirty-nine dollar Samsung.” Needless to say this messed up the whole shabang.
Enough babble, check out Michael Bay’s freakout in the video below, and check back with us for more hard-hitting CES coverage.
Update: Since the video and news of Michael Bay’s meltdown have gone viral, Bay took to his own personal blog to address the incident.
Here’s what he had to say:
Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing.
But I’m doing a special curved screen experience with Samsung and Transformers 4 footage that will be traveling around the world.
