Former HTC executive hired to lead BlackBerry's Devices division

As part of its turnaround strategy, BlackBerry has hired Ron Lokus as its new president of devices and emerging solutions, Reuters is reporting (and brought to our attention by PhoneArena).

Lokus was previously head of strategy at HTC’s America, as well as head of technology at Sony Ericsson. Most recently, he held the top job at OpenNMS Group.

At the Canadian company, he will be in charge of winning back businesses and consumers to adopt the BlackBerry 10 platform, which proved everything but popular among the general audience. In fact, nearly 75% of sales last quarter are still coming from BlackBerry’s legacy models.

So Lokus will have to try to come up with a model that can compete with iOS and Android powered handsets, as well as Windows Phone devices. Not an easy task considering all the cash BlackBerry’s competitors have… We’ll be eagerly watching for every step he makes and let you know about it. Stay tuned…
