Last year’s top chip was Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and this year, we’re expecting its successor in the form of Snapdragon 805. During CES in Las Vegas, the chip-making giant demoed several fancy camera capabilities which we’re eager to play with on our phones. Alas, we can’t do that with existing devices.
The good news (actually a rumor) is that the first Snapdragon 805-powered phones are coming in May. The information, in case you wonder, comes from Japanese sources which claim that Qualcomm revealed this off the record.
We don’t know which handset maker will be first one to launch this phone, but the chances are we’ll see a slew of such devices launched in the second half of this year. The usual suspects include the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, LG G3, Nexus 6, Sony Z2 (or however it ends up being known), an HTC smartphone and so on.
We’ll be on the lookout for any information regarding this powerful chip and let you know as soon as we have something new to add. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?
