The newly unveiled Tegra K1 will find its way in the next Surface tablet. According to famed Microsoft leaker @MSFTnerd, the Redmond giant will opt for NVIDIA’s powerful chip with 192-core graphics in its next Windows RT tablet, which should be launched by July this year.

That alone is amazing news, but that’s not all. The same source confirms that the Surface Mini is in works and should hit the stores few months from now. We’re not sure whether it too will get a “Pro” version which won’t run Windows RT, but full blown Windows 8.1.

Finally, we’ve learned that Microsoft is working on an update to Windows 8.1 to add support for InstantGo, enabling always-on connectivity without draining your battery.

As a big fan of 8-inch tablets, I can’t wait to see what Microsoft comes up with. As far as I can tell, the Surface Mini Pro — presuming it actually launches this year — could easily be my next tablet. 😉
