Here’s a piece of information to give you some perspective how much money OEMs are making. A Chinese firm has launched an octa-core smartphone in its own backyard selling it for an equivalent of $165 (999 Yuan)! That’s not all; the Zopo ZP80+ also packs a 5-inch full HD screen, and a 14-megapixel camera F2.2 on the back (although the image shows an 8MP unit).
It’s important to add that this chip (clocked at 1.7GHz) has eight Cortex-A7 rather than faster Cortex-A9 or Cortex-A15 cores, but you should get an awesome performance, nonetheless. It’s not as fast as Snapdragon 800, but still rather amazing considering the price.
I’m stunned how high-end smartphone are getting more affordable with the day. Sure enough, Zopo isn’t exactly a household name in the West, but with prices like these — and presuming it ever reaches Europe and the U.S. — it could easily emerge as one of the more popular options for shoppers on a budget, offering pretty much unprecedented value for the money.
