Project Ara NOT included as part of Lenovo's acquisition of Motorola

Google will keep Project Ara under its belt, since the Advanced Technology and Projects group was NOT included as part of Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola. Instead, this team will be integrated with Google’s Android team, headed by Sundar Pichai. Regina Dugan, who leads the Advanced Technology and Projects group will report to Pichai, while maintaining an individual role. Chances are the team members will shift their office from Sunnyvale to the Mountain View campus.

Project Ara, for those of you who’ve been living under a rock, is a modular phone concept that allows users to make their own perfect phone by combining the different parts like camera module, CPU, internal memory, physical QWERTY keyboard and so on.

According to TheVerge, Google may invest even more resources to scale Project Ara. We’re still clueless when this concept will start selling and can only hope for a short wait. Meanwhile, we’ll be on the lookout for any news related to Project Ara and get back to you as soon as we have something new to add. Stay tuned…
