The next version of iOS will include some powerful fitness tracking capabilities, 9to5Mac is reporting. The new version of the platform will sing along the rumored iWatch and include an app called Healthbook that will allow users to easily get and stay in shape using Apple’s mobile gear.
The mentioned application will be able to track various fitness and health metrics, and may be one of the most important parts of the iOS 8. When paired with the iWatch, the iPhone will be able to “monitor several other pieces of health and fitness data,” and present users with actionable information like whether they should increase or decrease their workout(s).
It is said that Healthbook will work in a similar fashion to Passbook, sporting an easy to use interface with various “cards” detailing health information.
Presuming Apple does enter this space, we’re not sure what will happen with existing fitness tracking apps. Although some of them have respectable following, they could be facing a fierce competitor, one that could preload its app with every iPhone sold. We’ll see how that goes…
