The battle between Nokia and HTC over patents has come to an end. The two companies have settled all patent litigation, and have agreed to enter into a patent and technology collaboration agreement. This news comes just before the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft is expected to take effect.
“We are very pleased to have reached a settlement and collaboration agreement with HTC, which is a long-standing licensee for Nokia’s standards essential patents,” – Paul Melin, chief intellectual property officer at Nokia
Although financial details are not disclosed, HTC will reportedly make monetary payments to Nokia. This will help strengthen Nokia’s LTE portfolio by combining HTC’s patents into the mix.
