Presuming BlackBerry manages to convince enough users to buy their phones and stays in business for another year, it will join the 64-bit craze with a device of its own. According to N4BB, the Canadian company has been planning to utilize Qualcomm’s potent Snapdragon MSM8994 chip that comes with 8 cores and 64-bit architecture.
Of course, this chip is still in the pipeline and as far as we know, it won’t be out before at least the second half of 2014. In the meantime, we hope to see something more powerful launching from the Waterloo-based vendor. Like that BlackBerry Ontario which apparently rocks the ever-popular Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC.
It’s important to note that BlackBerry was never in the specs chasing game. It has its own platform which is super-optimized to enable real multi-tasking using hardware from two years ago. While that’s an impressive feat, the company still has hard time growing its sales. We’ll see whether they get luckier after the Ontario launches…
