BlackBerry decided to join the stickers craze and include the functionality in the latest update to its BBM app. This is something all other popular messaging platforms have, and I guess the idea is to “keep up with the Joneses.”
It could be that the Canadian company is looking to make BBM the real stand-alone product everyone — not just BlackBerry owners — will want to use. Now that WhatsApp has been acquired by Facebook for gazillion dollars, perhaps BlackBerry thinks BBM could be their next cash cow. Alas, BBM doesn’t have the user base as big as WhatsApp do, and it looks rather serious for an average teenager texting all day long. Or that at least the way I see things.
Anyhow, it remains to be seen whether stickers will work for BlackBerry or not. And by “work,” we mean make some real-world cash from users looking for a better way to express themselves…
