Samsung won’t be the only chip maker with a hexa-core chip for long. Taiwan’s MediaTek is planning to join the party later this quarter with its MT6591 SoC with clock speeds of up to 1.5GHz.

According to the company’s leaked roadmap, this chip will be compatible with China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network though we assume WCDMA is also “there.”

We also know the MT6591 will be able to handle full HD video playback and… that’s about it. We’ll have to wait for another few weeks to get all other details.

Chances are this chip will end-up in a number of phones made for the Chinese market, though you never know – perhaps we see it in devices sold in Europe and North America, as well. We’ll let you know when we hear something new…
