The newly announced Sony Xperia Z2 may be an awesome device but the Japanese company is planning another flagship device for the second half of the year. Speaking to the Japanese media, Sony Mobile’s Creative Director Kurozumi Yoshiro said that flagship phone launches are becoming more frequent due to market demands.
“In order to maintain a flagship, you must update at this frequency,” said Mr Kurozumi. When pressed on why Sony does not adopt a yearly update cycle, Kurozumi responded that you cannot catch up with peers on that cycle. He went on to confirm that the Xperia Z2 is the “flagship of the first half of 2014.”
Hear that? We’ll see the Z3 announced later this year; or that could be the Xperia Z2s aka Z2 Mini. My guess is that Sony is waiting for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 chip and then launch the new beast-phone just in time for the holiday shopping season. Sounds like a plan. 😉
