Spanish Telefonica doesn’t want to miss the emerging wearables revolution, and is thus teaming-up with Sony, Samsung and LG. Under the deal, the carrier group will collaborate with the three companies on integration of its services, such as its VoIP app Tu Go, into their hardware.
In addition, Telefonica is also “open to reach agreements with other market players, manufacturers, content providers, companies in the fashion industry to ensure that these devices are commercially successful.”
During the recent Mobile World Congress, Samsung unveiled the new Gear 2 and Gear Neo 2 smart watches, as well as the Gear Fit smart band. Sony already offers its smart watch, and has recently unveiled the SmartBand. And so did LG…
Although wearable tech is still in its infancy, analysts are predicting some big numbers for the market: Deloitte says it will be worth $3 billion this year, while Canalys predicts 17 million wearable bands will ship this year.
