Thus far, Huawei’s own chips were slower than competing products, notably those made by Qualcomm. That, however, could change soon with the upcoming Kirin 920 processor.
A device using this chip has been caught at Antutu benchmarks from where we learn that it’s faster than Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 801. With its 37,363, the Kirin is trailing only three other processors, two NVIDIA Tegra K1 chips and the upcoming Snapdragon 805.
That’s a rather impressive score for Huawei. Scrap that, that’s impressive score for any processor coming from a handset maker (rather than the company dedicated to making mobile chips).
It is said that the Kirin 920 will rock eight cores, four power-efficient Cortex-A7 and four Cortex-A15, while supporting Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) screens and 32-megapixel cameras. Chances are we’ll see the Kirin 920 debuting later this year, most likely in a device from Huawei’s Ascend D series. We’ll let you know when we hear something new on this…
