Xiaomi is launching MIUI software optimized for tablets. Available as an open beta, the software will work with the 2013 edition Nexus 7 though we assume version(s) for other devices will follow shortly. The company says that the ROM has a brand new architecture that takes advantage of extra screen estate, and can work both in landscape and portrait orientations. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun noted they are open to licensing the ROM to third parties but no company has been named yet.

We are, however, looking forward to see the first Xiaomi tablet launching soon. Chances are this device will be released sooner rather than later, but you never know. Hopefully, its availability won’t be limited to China and few countries in the Southeast Asia… You can download the 278MB-heavy ROM from here.
