A week and a half ago, we’ve told you that HTC is working on additional phones for the world’s emerging markets, Desire 316 and Desire 516. The first of the two has been officially announced in China, and chances are it will never hit the Western markets. Not that we necessarily need it here anyway.
Specs wise, the Desire 316 comes with a 5-inch qHD screen, 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, 5-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, just 512MB of RAM, 1950mAh battery and 4GB of expandable storage. We’re not sure how much HTC will ask for this handset, but it’s hard to imagine it will cost more than $150 sans any strings attached.
As I said it again, while this phone is not going to be missed in the Western hemisphere, it could help the Taiwanese company get back to its feet and once again start making money. We need companies like HTC to stand against Samsung which it getting way to powerful…
