HTC has released yet another app in the Google Play Store – Dot View Case. It’s nothing you can use now, but it’s an important step in HTC’s new strategy to offer its apps through Google Play allowing for faster updates in the future. No longer will the process of updating a number of apps require carrier approval – non-core stuff will go through the Google Play Store, which is a much faster way to accomplish the same thing.
Speaking of that process, Motorola and Sony are also doing this and we would like to see more OEMs joining-in. It’s not just carriers that slow-down the firmware update process – this way HTC (and other vendors) will be able to update each of the individual apps independently of the overall firmware. If they find a bug in the Dot View Case app, it will be addressed that much faster. Or if they want to add a new feature – again, users will just update the app rather than the entire firmware. Love it!
