A few days ago we’ve told you that Motorola is seemingly preparing a special version of its affordable Moto G smartphone called Moto G Forte. That model is now officially launched in Mexico and it’s a rather disappointing product.
Instead of launching a brand new device with tougher shell and tweaked hardware, Moto decided to simply rebrand the existing Moto G while adding a rugged Grip Shell in the package. So it’s just a marketing gimmick, while the phone’s internals remain the same. They include a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 720p HD screen, and so on. You also get 50GB of free Google Drive storage as part of the deal.
If you do want the Forte — and it’s still a decent low-to-mid end device for the price — you’ll have to get it from Nextel Mexico which is now carrying the 8GB version. We would guess some other markets will also be “blessed” with this version of the Moto G, but we don’t have that information confirmed at this stage…
