Nokia will be launching Windows Phone 8.1 updates for all of its newer Lumia smartphones this summer. And by newer we mean they already run Windows Phone 8 and can thus “handle” the latest version of the platform.
Announcing the news during Microsoft’s BUILD conference, the ex-CEO Stephen Elop added that this is something Google can’t do – promise timely device updates. Elop did note that some carriers could slow things down as they want to make sure that the new firmware doesn’t mess things up.
We are not sure that’s a fair statement considering hundreds of Android phones and tablets currently in circulation. It’s not like Google controls what its partners are doing.
Alas, we’re glad to see Nokia — soon to become a part of Microsoft — committing to updating its current line-up… So who’s looking forward to speak with Cortana?
