LG to move 15 million smartphones in the second quarter?

LG is expected to move some 15 million smartphone in the second quarter of the year. If numbers from Mirae Asset Securities Co. are correct, this will be the best ever 3-month period for the company, with monthly smartphone sales growing from previous record of 4.4 in Q4 2013 to 5 million units.

As we would expect, the high-end phones like the LG G2 and Nexus 5 have little to do with these figures. Rather, it’s the lower-margin devices from the L- and F-series, as well as the G2 Mini that will help LG grow, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll also push it to the path of profitability.

Overall, analysts believe that the Korean company will sell 60 million smartphones by the end of the year.

LG’s mobile division ended Q4 2013 in red, registering a loss of 43.4 billion won, which translates into some $40.9 million.
