We still wait to see the first Windows Phone 8.1 devices but that won’t (and shouldn’t) stop the leaks about the next version of the platform.
The information we gathered comes from a Redditor who claims to be a 15-year veteran at Microsoft; here’s what he had to say about features expected in the next version of Windows Phone.
- First of all, we should expect shorter update cycles, with feature updates every 6 – 8 months, and major OS updates every year or two. In that sense, Windows Phone 8.2 or 9 will launch in 8 – 10 months, bringing along a number of enhancements, features and so on.
- Windows Phone 8.2 will allow users to give password to their Inner Circle of people so that they can get through the “Do Not Disturb” mode with text messages. In addition, the DND can be turned off if an important contact calls three times in a row.
- Support for other (than Skype) video services.
- Ability to change the default SMS app.
The source also mentioned what he says is an “interesting plan” how to fight Google in the search space, though no details were provided, leaving us pondering what Microsoft could possibly do to become a search engine of choice of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Any ideas?
