There are no doubts in my mind that the newly unveiled Nokia Lumia 930 is one of the best camera-phones, ever. When it comes to mobile camera technology, the Finns are the best. What we didn’t know (until now) is that the Lumia 930 will be the world’s first smartphone with Dolby Digital Plus audio recording.
According to WPcentral, this feature is still technically in development and should be ready for prime time in the next few weeks.
The technology relies on the built-in four HAAC (high-amplitude audio recording) microphones which were first included in the Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon. This in turn could mean that the same capability could arrive to those two phones through a firmware update. That part, of course, is still not confirmed but we would be surprised if Nokia decides to keep something as cool as Dolby Digital Plus audio recording on a single device, only.
The new option will be found under the Camera settings for Video. At the moment, Lumia users can choose between Audio bass filter and Directional Stereo, and with the Lumia 930 – they will also be able to select Dolby Digital 5.1. That option, as you would imagine, will make sure the video is captured alongside stunning audio quality. Pretty cool, I would say; what do you think?
