The popular lock-screen replacement app for Android Cover has been acquired by Twitter. We’re not sure what they’ll do with the app, and can only hope it won’t be cancelled along the way. Heck, I would imagine Twitter would want to use this technology to cram Twitter feeds to as many phones as possible, even when these devices are not “actively” used.
On the other hand, this could be one of those “talent acquisitions” where Twitter is hoping to get the guys who made Cover so popular. But some technology is also there and they would be foolish to simply dump it.
We don’t know how much Twitter paid for the privilege; we do know that Cover guys are thrilled with this move. Here’s a snippet from their blog post:
Twitter, like Cover, believes in the incredible potential of Android. They share our vision that smartphones can be a lot smarter – more useful and more contextual – and together we’re going to make that happen. We’ll be building upon a lot of what makes Cover great, and we’re thrilled to create something even better at Twitter.
Cover will remain available in the Play Store but (again) we’re not sure whether future updates will be coming or not…
