We’ve already told you that Samsung is working on the successor of its Galaxy Beam smartphone. You know, that was the phone that came with built-in pico projector which for one reason or another, never took off.
Now the Korean company is preparing to test its luck in China with a slightly improved model. The upcoming Galaxy Beam 2 (or that’s Beam2) got a page at Samsung China’s website from where we get to learn about its internals. This unit will have a 4.66-inch screen with an everything but cool WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core chip, 5-megapixel camera on the back, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS and 2,600 mAh battery all packed into a fancy lookin’ metal body. Moreover, we also get to learn it’s heading to China Mobile, the world’s biggest mobile operator by subscriber numbers.
While these sort of phones are cool (and rare), you should bear in mind that the built-in projector makes sure your battery is drained in no time at all, while making the product that much bulkier. In that sense, we’re all for owning a separate, though also portable, projector.
Finally, we should add that we’ve no idea whether Samsung will ever launch the Beam2 in the West. Not that we necessarily want one…
