Samsung has ambitious plans for the wearables market. In addition to the new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, the Korean giant is also planning the version with a SIM card slot (Gear Solo) as well as an Android Gear-based model. And that apparently is not all – they may also be working on a smartwatch with circular display.
The illustration you can see above comes from Sammy’s last year’s patent filing depicting a watch that can’t help but remind us on the upcoming Moto 360. That said, we may see the Korean company launching a similarly looking Android Gear device… or not. As far as we (don’t) know, this is just a patent filing which may or may not turn into a real-life product. Circular displays cost more and the company may keep this design for some premium product.
One thing is certain though – Samsung is preparing to bring its smartphone strategy to the wearables market and launch as many devices as humanly possible. At the moment, we can’t really predict whether that approach will work or not in this space. We’ll be carefully watching and get back to you as soon as we have something new to add.
