AT&T and Samsung have officially announced the Galaxy S5 Active, a tougher version of the Galaxy S5. As such, this device looks a bit uglier but that extra ruggedness gotta count for something.
Specs wise, the S5 Active phone is pretty much the same as the regular Galaxy S5, boasting a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, 16-megapixel main camera, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Android 4.4 KitKat is running the show with Samsung’s usual software running on top.
Aside from a tougher, MIL-STD-810G certified body that can “handle” salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shocks – this unit also has a dedicated, customizable button pressing on which will fire-up your favorite outdoor activity apps. The heart rate monitor is included as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is available in Camo Green, Titanium Gray and Ruby Red exclusively from AT&T for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Alternatively, you can get it for $27.50 per month with AT&T Next 18 or $35.75 per month with AT&T Next 12. To further sweeten the deal, AT&T and Samsung are also taking $50 off a Samsung Gear Fit with every S5 Active purchase.
So, who’s buying?
