Sony-made device marked as D6603 has cleared the FCC and we tend to think this is the upcoming Xperia Z3.
The phone’s listing with the Commission is everything but revealing though we do (think we) know what this unit will be all about.
If we can take earlier rumors for something, the Z3 will be an evolutionary (rather than revolutionary) update to the current Xperia Z2. Unlike other vendors looking into making devices with QHD screens, Sony will keep using a full HD one. However, it will make sure the phone is sexy as possible, sporting a super thin body and an aluminum frame that should deliver premium look and feel. Moreover, we would bet this too will be a water- and dust-resistant device that can sustain more damage (water) than competing products.
We also expect to see Sony’s now-classic 20.7-megapixel camera, at least 3GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip, and other bells and whistles we came to expect from a high-end Android smartphone.
It is suggested that Sony will launch the Xperia Z3 at some point this year; the paperwork has been cleared, and who knows – we may actually get to see it hitting the U.S. store shelves just in time for the back to school season. Or not… We’ll watch this space and get back to you soon as we have something new to add.
