It was back in February when we first talked about the Gionee Elife S5.5, which at that time was the device with the slimmest body, ever. At 5.5mm, it still holds the said spot but that will change soon; and the next phone to claim the throne will be another Gionee device.
The soon-to-be-launched Gionee GN9005 will come in a 5mm-thin body, while boasting specs of a decent mid-range phone. These include a 4.8-inch 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels) screen, quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 4G LTE connectivity support, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s also a pair of cameras, 8-megapixel one on the back, and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for taking fancy selfies.
Such slim profile comes with a caveat in the form of smaller battery. We would guess the included 2,050 mAh battery will take you through the day, except if you keep taking photos throughout the day. Or if you’re watching YouTube for few hours. Alas, something’s gotta give, and if you want the world’s thinnest phone, you gotta accept few compromises.
No word whether Gionee will bring the GN9005 to other markets outside of China. We would assume few surrounding countries will get it as well, whereas users in the West will have to “settle” with some other, not-that-thin device.
