Carphone Warehouse will be one of the retailers offering the BlackBerry Passport, with their video demoing the built-in smart keyboard hitting the Interwebs. Actually, Carphone didn’t want to make the said clip available to the general public just yet, and has consequently pulled it from YouTube; but not before someone has managed to save the video and re-upload it to Google’s video sharing service. And voila – we have a chance to see how that magic keyboard actually works. And we love it.
As we’ve heard before — and now get to see that in action — the keyboard will double as a trackpad that supports gestures. A swipe to the left deletes a word, while swiping up and down will scrolls the text or a web page.
It’s still unclear how much the Passport will cost but chances are it won’t be a cheap device. For one thing, it has that unique 4.5-inch 1440×1440 screen that likely costs a small fortune to produce (compared to other standard panels, that is).
However, we’re certain that many European carriers will give the phablet away to anyone willing to sign-up for a hefty contract. Presumingly it will businesses rather than individuals that care more about the Passport, though you never know. I’m sure I’m not the only craving for a big screen / physical keyboard combo on a smartphone. Can’t wait to try it out. 😉
