It’s been suggested multiple times that Samsung is looking to launch smart glasses of its own. We’ve seen a number of different sketches from the company’s patents, some of which describe a Glass-like device, and some others – a Bluetooth headset with Heads Up Display (HUD).
Now a new rumor is coming our way; the source is TizenExperts, and it suggests that Sammy’s smart glass will be launched in March 2015. At that time, Mobile World Congress is kicking off in Barcelona, so yes – we expect this product to be the highlight of the show (presuming it’s actually unveiled at that time).
The name of this device, according to TizenExperts, will be Gear Blink and it will most likely launch alongside the Galaxy S6, with Sammy touting it as its [Galaxy S6’s] ultimate accessory. Though it may be able to work without any phone, just like the Gear S smart watch can.
We’re glad to see increased competition in the smart glass space and are looking forward to see other vendors entering this market, providing more options to the users. It is said that Lenovo is one of those working on a smart eyewear device and so does Microsoft.
Hopefully, with more companies launching their smart glasses, prices of these devices will go south. Who can afford to pay $1,500 for a gadget, anyway?
