OnePlus One is still a highly desired smartphone and the company is already thinking about its successor. The device has been unveiled in April of this year, and we obviously expect to see the next model launching at about the same time next year.
A recent Reddit AMA session spilled the beans on the OnePlus Two, with folks from the company saying it should be out “in Q2 or Q3 of 2015,” likely running Android L right from the bet.
Moreover, OnePlus’ next device may also be smaller, likely sporting a 5-inch screen, as opposed to the 5.5-inch one found in the OnePlus One model.
Finally, the company’s representatives also confirmed they’ve underestimated demand by 30x, which led to the scarcity.
The way I see things, OnePlus — and any other handset maker for that matter — is best off taking the “dual-size approach” as attested by the new iPhone 6. This means, offer the flagship device in two different versions, one made for the mass market with more pocketable design, and the another one with huge screen, catered towards the fast-growing markets in Asia. This sort of strategy works for Apple and Samsung. Could it work for other handset makers, as well? What do you say?
