Sony has scheduled an event in New York City on Thursday, October 9th, and from what we’re getting, at that time they’ll announce a deal with T-Mobile. This in turn will see the Magenta network starting to offer the Xperia Z3 in the States. Or we could see few other carriers lining up to sell Sony’s gear. Even better, we may also hear something on Z3’s smaller sibling, the Xperia Z3 Compact.
It’s a fact that Sony needs a deal with major US carriers to stay in business. Teaming up with T-Mobile is just a start with the Japanese company ultimately shooting to have its products available across all big four operators.
However, it doesn’t seem an easy task. Although Sony makes great devices, they are not selling enough of them. One of the reasons could be the slow time to release timely updates; or it could be that Sony doesn’t put enough money in marketing. In any case, Sony-made phones and tablets aren’t selling in volumes. And if they don’t change this downward trend soon, they may face extinction from the mobile market.
So yes, we’re glad to see Sony getting back to the U.S. market; we’re just not sure a deal with one (un)carrier will be enough for the struggling Japanese company. What do you say?
