Guess who’s planning the join the nascent VR market? That would be Oppo, which according to G4Games plans to compete with the likes of Samsung and Carl Zeiss, as well as Google’s own Cardboard project.
The information, in case you wonder, comes straight from the horse’s mouth, Oppo’s official Weibo account, where we caught a photo of one of the company’s employees wearing a VR headset adorned with the “Oppo” logo.
Chances are the Chinese firm will “do the Samsung” and unveil its very first VR product alongside the upcoming — and earlier leaked — Oppo N3 phablet.
Said device will keep the design of its predecessor, Oppo N1, boasting a rotatable camera that will easily make it one of the best devices for taking selfies. We also expect it to rock top-notch specs such as a powerful quad-core chip like Snapdragon 801 or 805, Quad HD screen, 3GB of RAM and so on.
While the wearables market has been exploding in recent years, the sub-segment of VR headsets is still new. If Oppo plays its cards right and make its product available all around the world, it stands a chance to become a force worth dealing with. We’ll see how that goes…
