HTC’s Nexus 9 hasn’t been available for long, but thanks to the infamous Chainfire there’s already a way to root the device. Chainfire’s rooting method is pretty straightforward if you’re familiar with the process of rooting Android devices with fastboot, but could require a bit more scrutiny if you’re new to the whole deal. That doesn’t mean noobs shouldn’t give it a go, just be prepared to spend a good chunk of time with your new Nexus 9, and make sure to do your research first. Xda-developers is a great resource, so make sure to bookmark it if you already haven’t done so.
