Apple may not be the only vendor working on a 13-inch tablet (iPad Air Plus), with Sony reportedly looking to join this market at some point next year, as well. There’s also Samsung with its Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, which fits the same category.
According to Chinese sources and brought to our attention by GSMarena, the Japanese giant may launch the 13-inch Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra as early as January, announcing its big-ass slate from the floor of CES in Las Vegas.
This model, the story goes, will be joined by other devices from the Z4 series, including the flagship/mainstream Xperia Z4, Z4 Compact, Z4 Ultra (phablet) and a regular, 10-inch Z4 Tablet.
Sony will apparently make sure that extra screen estate is put into good use. If the rumors we’ve heard are to be believed, users can expect a Triluminos IPS display with X-Reality engine and 3,840 x 2,400 pixels resolution; that’s 16:10 aspect ratio and 4K UHD, for those who count.
Rest of the specs are equally impressive and include Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip with a max CPU clock-speed of 2.86GHz, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and PS4 Remote Play support.
In the camera department, we’ll get an 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor with f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* lens and 8-megapixel Superior Auto resolution.
Size wise, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra will be 8.6mm thick, packing a massive 12,100mAh battery.
Again, all this is still in the rumors phase and right now all we can do is hope Sony is indeed thinking in this direction. Not that we necessarily need a 13-inch tablet – we want a device with this sort of hardware. 😉
