What is this “vtaber” we speak of? Well, it has to do with the binary code that was posted to the iPhone Dev Team’s blog. We’ve been checking the iPhone Dev Team blog religiously over the past 12 hours in hopes of catching a first glimpse at the iPhone 3G unlock solution, and this morning we found a post listing the following binary string:
01110110 01110100 01100001 01100010 01100101 01110010 00100000 00110110 00110001 00110000 00110110 00110000 00110001 00110111 00110100 00100000
When translated, the above binary reads “vtaber 61060174.” At first glance, the message appears to be gibberish. But, knowing that the iPhone 3G unlock is just around the corner, and that the iPhone Dev Team wouldn’t post gibberish just or the sake of toying with our emotions, we looked into the matter a bit further.
Turns out, “vtaber” means “ignore” and the binary can now be translated as “ignore 61060174.” Assuming that the “61060174” refers to a post number, the binary instructs us to ignore a post in which the iPhone Dev Team says the iPhone 3G unlock solution is still in the works.
So, the iPhone Dev Team is telling us to ignore their previous statement that an iPhone 3G unlock is still being developed. In other words, the iPhone Dev Team is on the verge of blowing our minds with their release of a fully working iPhone 3G software unlock solution.
[Update]
It dawned on us that the iPhone Dev Team may be telling us that the expected iPhone 3G unlock will work with the newer 2.28.00 baseband firmware that comes installed on all new iPhone 3G’s and any iPhone 3G upgraded to iPhone 2.2 OS outside of the Pwnage Tool-based jailbreak. The Team’s “vtaber 61060174” message might be telling us to ignore previous advice about preserving the iPhone 3G’s older baseband, rather than telling us to disregard previous statements about the unlock solution’s in-development status.
The iPhone Dev Team also posted this screenshot of an iPhone 3G running the 2.28.00 modem firmware. A hint? We think so.
Fingers crossed for an iPhone 3G unlock that works with the 2.28.00 modem firmware!
