LG LU2300 Android/Snapdragon phone in works

In addition to its Windows Mobile 7 plans, LG also wants a piece of the growing Android pie. So far, they’ve released a single device, GW620 (aka InTouch Max in UK or LinkMe in Italy), which failed to impress many. The plan is to embrace the high-end standards and release an Android 2.1-powered device which would rely on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPU for all of its processing needs. The upcoming device, LG LU2300, will also come with WVGA AMOLED touchscreen (hopefully capacitive) and a 5-megapixel camera that can take 720p video at 30 fps.

No word on release date, but it seems this baby will debut in South Korean and then eventually be transferred outside of peninsula. First it needs to take on the Samsung M100S and if that goes well, it may show the Nexus Ones of the world why they need to buy an LG-made device instead of one made by HTC.

We’re certainly happy to see all those Snapdragon-powered smartphones popping up like mushrooms after the rain, and are looking forward to see the market forces in action. This should result in lower costs of such devices which is a good thing, gotta admit. 😉
