Verizon preparing to offer Visual Voicemail

Following on news that AT&T and Apple have settled with Klausner Technologies over the use of the Visual Voicemail system that changed the way we look at voicemail, we’re hearing that Verizon is planning to offer their subscribers some sweet, sweet Visual Voicemail love in the near future.

Verizon logoAT&T has it, Sprint is going to use it, and so it makes sense that Verizon would want to offer the visual-based voicemail system to its subscriber-base. There’s nothing like a little competition to keep things spicy.

Verizon is looking to launch the service in late July to early August. Unfortunately for Verizon customers, all that competition between carriers didn’t push Verizon to offer the service for free – Visual Voicemail will cost an additional $1.99 on top of the monthly wireless bill. Sure, AT&T and Sprint are offering the service for free to iPhone and Instinct owners, respectively, but that’s not how Verizon rolls.

The LG Chocolate 3, LG “Voyager Refresh” (whatever that means – hardware or firmware refresh), Motorola “Utopia” and Motorola “Blaze” will be the first handsets to be offered with the Visual Voicemail system from Verizon. The service will be available through a handy BREW application that can be downloaded OTA (over the air).
